“Reverence for the past and hope for the future drive the thrilling, sometimes ecstatic “Supreme Love,” presented by Tapman Productions and performed by M.A.D.D. Rhythms. Thankfully, that earnestness never interferes with the fun — in fact, it powers the joy.” – Laura Molzahn, Chicago Tribune (full review here)
Join us for a special presentation of Supreme Love at the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Arts on July 21 & 23 at 7:30pm as part of the annual Rhythm World tap and percussive dance festival presented by the Chicago Human Rhythm Project. Get all of the details here. (Scroll down for Supreme Love)
About the show:
“Supreme Love” expresses true life through the art of tap dance, recreating the chants of John Coltrane’s manifestations through the album “A Love Supreme” and celebrating truth from the sounds of Hip Hop music. Tap dance company M.A.D.D. Rhythms, choreographer Jumaane Taylor and a live quartet present “Acknowledgement” to “Psalm” from the 1965 classic though uncovering the next artistic status and exhibiting Coltrane’s theology. Complimenting the legendary Tree of Hope, supreme love survives off traditions of good luck or most high power. Conquering the original jazz music, this quartet reinvents the classic band and narrates our transitions with their instruments. M.A.D.D. Rhythms and the musicians exchange expressive musical opinions, rediscovering themselves and their art. Witnessing life’s course, rhythm and miracles, we dance in the name of God, truth and our ancestors, traveling through the art with progressive admiration for tradition.
Supreme Love was originally presented by Jumaane Taylor and Tapman Productions, LLC in September of 2015 at the Athenaeum Theatre in Chicago.
