EDUCATION & TAP PROGRAM

The Tapman Productions Tap Program offers is an adaptable tap dance education program that let's the students choose their level of immersion. The curriculum focuses on the practice and the history of tap, with one complimenting the other. A standard class involves the study of traditional tap dances, contemporary tap dance technique and choreography, improvisation, and video footage of legendary tap dancers. The goal of our teachers Tapman Productions Tap Program is to build students' confidence in their tap so that they can participate in a jam, knock'em dead at the school talent show, or hob knob with the who's who of the tap dance world at the annual tap dance festival.

Join us at our downtown location, located at Intrigue Dance Studio (1234 S. Michigan Ave), or at a local studio near you.

Afternoon Tap w/ Tristan Bruns

Designed for home schoolers, college students and adults with free time during the day. Classes run between an hour and fifteen minutes to an hour and a half for the low cost of $10 per class and are run at the popular Intrigue Dance Studio located in the heart of downtown Chicago. Metered street parking is available and is not crowded during the day. There are a number of local restaurants, stores and a Jewel super market conveniently close by.

This is my ideal class where I not only set the curriculum, but focus on important issues involving tap history and improvisation that may get left out of the classes at busy dance studios.

Special: One time drop in rate of $15

Schedule:

Beginner Tap Technique every Tuesday @ Intrigue (beginning May 1st)

An entry-level class designed for the absolute beginner, though that rank is sure to be short lived. Covered are the basic fundamentals of tap, such as posture, loose ankles, isolating the individual "notes" that are possible with a tap shoe and a good dose of tap history. A highlight of the class is learning how to express your own style through improvisation - we will take away the fear of improv by discussing certain stigmas that surround it as well as giving the student a number of useful tools that will create beautiful dancing from literally day 1.

Intermediate Tap Technique every Wednesday, 1-2:30 @ Intrigue

Don't be surprised if this class doesn't surpass your expectations for an intermediate level tap class. Assuming the student has a good grasp of the basics, the class troubleshoots through more advanced steps and concepts, including 12+ wing variations, dancing in different meters, more tools for improv and challenging tap combinations.

Intermediate Tap Rep every Thursday, 1:15-2:30 @ Intrigue

The Intermediate Tap Rep(ertoire) class is designed to complement the Intermediate Tap Technique class; in Int. Tap Rep we focus strictly on choreography. The first half of the class deals with tap traditional dances, like the Leonard Reed's The Shim Sham, the B.S. Chorus and Eddie Brown's The Walkaround. The second half is original choreography by yours truly!
